Essentials for the Weekend - 22nd August 2017

Even though we are quickly heading into Spring, the chilly weather still calls for some cosy, warm fleece.
After a busy week, there is nothing better than slipping into your favourite hoodie or trackpants for the weekend.
Our secret is comfort and warmth with style! When you can add style to your outfit, you are set for the weekend. Below is a list of our top three Winter favs:

1. Hoodie
How can you go past the classic hoodie for fitting the fleece brief of both comfort and warmth? Our favourite fleece hoodies have a relaxed fit and a front joey pocket to keep your hands warm when it is cold outside!

2. Track Pants
Just like the hoodie, we love our trackpants to have a relaxed fit, and fleece on the inside, adding to the overall cosiness. Track pants are a must-have item for your wardrobe, no matter what the season.

3. Crew Sweat Top
Another Winter wardrobe staple, along with the hoodie and track pants, is the crew sweat top. This style of top is perfectly paired with your favourite trackpants for a snug and comfortable, yet stylish look.

As winter starts to set in, the team here at Russell Athletic decided to sit down with Brooke Meredith, founder and editor-in-chief of A Conscious Collection Magazine, to discover her lifestyle tips, as we head into the colder months.

What is your routine pre-exercise?

No routine as such, but one thing is for certain, I always make sure I’m equipped with a great play list!

What is your routine post exercise?

At the moment, I’m loving winding down in the sauna. 

What is your favourite (or must-have) piece from the Russell Athletics range? 

The Tights. Such a staple for any workout wardrobe and can take you from season to season. 

Do you have a different outfit for different workouts (cardio/weights)? 

Not really, it really just depends on how I’m feeling on the day and what’s clean. haha! 

What is your favourite post exercise snack? 

My chocolate protein balls for sure. You can find these here. 

 

What music do you like to listen to while you’re exercising?

Something up beat, I usually rotate through Spotify pre-made play lists in the workout section. They have a great variety, for all different paces. 

What do you love most about your favourite hoodie or track pants?

I love that they are the perfect at home comfort but you can wear them down the street or to the gym and they are still stylish. 

Do you have a fitness tip or advise you’d like to share?

Listen to your body and notice how you respond to certain types of exercise. What works for someone might not work for you. You really need to go on a journey with yourself when it comes to nutrition and exercise. What’s one person’s fuel can be another’s poison. And of course, find an exercise that you like doing. If it’s a chore, you really aren’t going to stick at it for long, are you?! 

What’s your favourite café?

That’s a hard one we are so spoilt in Melbourne. My friends own an amazing Vegan cafe; Matcha Mylkbar

Where do you most love to exercise?

I love to exercise outdoors as much as possible. In the summer, I love to surf -Not only is it a total body workout you get to have fun and a laugh at yourself for being so goofy! 

What does a healthy lifestyle mean to you?

A healthy lifestyle for me is a balanced lifestyle, one with not too many restrictions and full of vibrancy. A healthy lifestyle enables you to be your best, be strong in both body and mind and allow your best self to shine for others around you.

The team here at Russell Athletic love mixing sport with style. When we sat down for a chat with model and Instagrammer Josh Carroll (@swaggyjc), we discovered he does too. Josh shared with us his lifestyle tips, favourite pre- and post-workout routines, as well as his favourite snack (which is a questionable choice!)

What do you love most about your favourite hoodie or track pants?

First are foremost they keep me warm. Secondly, the Russell Athletic range is aesthetically pleasing so I feel pretty good walking into the gym. 

What does a healthy lifestyle mean to you?

Having a healthy lifestyle is much more than just eating healthy. It means living life to the fullest. Putting pride into everything you do and striving to be the best version of you possible. 

Do you have a fitness tip or advice you’d like to share?

Always make sure to warm up and mobilise your body before you start a workout. And never skip leg day!

Where do you most love to exercise?

If I can't train outdoors, I love to train at Fitness First in Bondi Westfield. It's got an outdoor section overlooking Sydney harbour which makes it so much more fun to train. 

What is your routine pre-exercise?

Before exercise, I'll always make sure to eat a nutritious meal, have a coffee and make sure I've got the best hip hop playlist there is to work myself up for the session. 

What music do you like to listen to while you’re exercising?

What pumps me up for a beast workout the most is hip hop, RnB or Rap. Sometimes I'll throw some Justin Bieber on if I'm doing cardio. You can never go past a good Biebs track. 

What is your routine post exercise?

Always make sure to stretch the muscles I've trained, grab a foam roller and roll out for about 10 minutes too. I'll try to eat, but if I don't have time I'll drink a protein shake. 

What is your favourite post exercise snack?

Most people think this is gross but I love snacking on cottage cheese. It has a bunch of protein and good fats in it and relatively low carb. 

What is your favourite (or must-have) piece from the Russell Athletic range?

I love mixing the utility zip through hoodie with the two-tone pants.

Do you have a different outfit for different workouts (cardio/weights)? 

When I'm doing cardio, I'll try to wear a tracksuit so it enables me to sweat more. If I'm doing weights I like to be able to breathe so I'll wear shorts and a singlet. 

What’s your favourite café?

Preach Cafe in Bondi is my go-to cafe for healthy nutritious food, plus the vibe there is always amazing.
